Graduate Trainee in Buying
“I am on the buying graduate scheme – an 18 month scheme based in the buying department but with attachments to areas of the business that a buyer needs to understand. I am now a year into the scheme and I have worked on loads of versatile projects.
I got to see Wilkinsons at its trading finest being in retail over Christmas, and I have also experienced major events in the trading calendar including Back to School and Halloween.
Working in buying administration I learnt the core buying processes and systems and because I’ve had a real job to do rather than shadow someone else it has helped to embed my learning. I’ve had my own projects to work on and my own objectives to achieve.
I’ve spent time in our merchandising department and in one of our distribution centres and I’m shortly due to move into our quality assurance department.
The scheme has been a huge learning curve, at times I’ve felt like I’m on a rollercoaster ride but the thing that I really like about Wilkinsons is that there is a real sense of community and there is always someone you can go to to ask for help and advice.”
